I’ve been considering starting a blog for a while, but I wasn’t sure what the purpose would be. My first thought was a miscellany blog where I post my thoughts on certain things as well as links to articles, sites, videos, etc. of interest. However, others are doing a better job at this than I could hope to do myself - e.g. here and here. So I decided to give the blog a narrower, but still rather broad theme, namely, what I’ve been reading. It’s not going to be a book review site, though I hope to do some. I’ll basically post ideas and quotes of interest that I read in books, in the news, on other blogs, or in the Bible. At least a post a day is the goal, but that likely won’t always happen (especially right now as I’m getting it going). My hope is that through discussion on this blog our horizons will be broadened, our understanding of what we read will be deepened, and that our reading abilities will improve. One can be widely read, but until he learns to read properly, he’ll never be well read. The working title is “read.comprehend.adjust”, meaning: read, understand what you read, and adjust yourself based on this new understanding. “Reading” here will be viewed as a learning activity, not recreation.
On January 17th, I start grad school. It’s just one class, but that along with my job will probably dash my blogging plans to pieces. We shall see…in the mean time…I might as well give it a go.
Congratulations!
This is great, now I have something else to link to. I’m at my parents house and just found some wi-fi today (you gotta love neighbors… one bar is all I need).
You know with starting this blog you’re going to have to punctuate and capitalize and use proper grammar and such right? Are you willing to make that sacrifice? I sure hope so… I. sure. hope. so.
Jared
I did punctuate and capitalize….see? Are you not amazed?
I appreciate the purity of the men and their wives you write about. To have the simple vision of God first and that be my driving passion for all I do in my life, this is my prayer for 2008. May Deanna be purified and her vision simplified to God’s majesty and glory!
